Privacy Policy

Dhunzza (dhunzza.in) is a free, ambient radio website. It does not require sign-up or an account to listen. This page explains what information is collected when you use Live Chat, send a song request, or simply browse the site, and how that information is used.

Information We Collect

Live Chat and Song Requests

When you send a song request or a message through Live Chat, you choose a display name and submit free text (your name and the song you're requesting, or a chat message). This is not an account — there is no password, email, or sign-up involved.

These submissions are stored as follows:

  • Your song request (name + song title) is shown in the public community feed that other visitors can see on the site.
  • The full request record — including a random session identifier generated in your browser, status, and timestamps — is stored in our database for moderation and fulfillment, and is only visible to site admins.
  • Song requests and chat messages are automatically removed after 7 days.

We do not ask for or store your email address, phone number, or any government ID through chat or song requests. Your IP address is read briefly at the time of submission solely to enforce rate limits (see below) — it is not saved to our database.

Moderation and Rate Limiting

Because Live Chat and song requests are public and open to anyone, we apply basic safeguards to keep the feed usable for everyone:

  • Submissions are rate-limited per browser session and per IP address (for example, one song request roughly every 45 seconds per session, with an additional cap per IP over a 10-minute window) to prevent spam and abuse.
  • Submitted text is sanitized to strip unsafe HTML/script content and repeated spam-like characters before it is stored or displayed.
  • Site admins can review, claim, fulfill, or delete any song request or chat message. There is currently no automated profanity/content filter — moderation of message content is done manually by admins, and inappropriate submissions can be removed at any time.

Online Presence Count

The “X online” counter shown on the site works by having your browser send a small, anonymous heartbeat (a random session ID stored only in your browser's session storage, not tied to your identity) roughly every 15 seconds while the page is open. This is used only to estimate how many people are listening right now, and is not linked to any personal information.

Analytics

We use the following analytics services to understand site usage and performance:

  • Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights — aggregated pageview and performance data (e.g. load times), used to keep the site fast and reliable.
  • Microsoft Clarity — session behavior analytics (such as anonymized click and scroll patterns) that help us understand how visitors use the site and spot usability issues.

Other Third-Party Services

  • Cloudflare — stores song requests and the community chat feed (D1 database), and hosts audio streaming media (R2/CDN).
  • Firebase — used only for admin sign-in on our internal dashboard; it does not handle any regular visitor's data.
  • Pixabay — supplies background imagery on the site; no personal data is sent to Pixabay as part of this.
  • Vercel — hosts the website itself.

Cookies and Local Storage

Dhunzza itself does not set tracking cookies. We use your browser's session storage to hold a temporary, random session ID (for chat, presence, and rate limiting) that is cleared when you close the tab. Third-party services embedded on the site may set their own cookies.

Children's Privacy

Dhunzza is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Live Chat and song requests are public-facing, we ask that users do not include personal information (their own or anyone else's) in a display name, chat message, or song request.

Data Retention and Deletion

Song requests and chat messages are automatically deleted after 7 days. Admins may also remove any submission earlier for moderation reasons. We do not retain IP addresses — they are used momentarily for rate limiting and are not stored.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Dhunzza's features change. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
